Student Success Tell Your Story: Communication Skills for the Artist UNCSA’s QEP (Quality Enhancement Plan) Requirement for SACSCOC accreditation (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) Institutions charged with identifying a key issue for improvement that focuses on student learning and accomplishing the mission of the school

QEP Student Learning Outcomes Students will be able to: Clearly communicate passion for their professional career. Effectively critique their own work. Effectively critique the work of others.

QEP Progress 2016-17 12 faculty pilot from across campus tested the QEP assessment rubric. Rubrics were revised based on faculty feedback. Workshop held with Chris Boneau, providing training for faculty, staff, and students in talking about and advocating for one’s artistic work Additional pilot testers joining the group, bringing the number to 20 participants for this year.

Student Advantage Week Goals Participating students will: Build a supportive peer network across the campus Become familiar with campus resources supporting student success Better understand academic expectations and campus culture Learn or improve important transferrable skills Initiate work with a Graduate Student Coach, who will remain a support for each student throughout the year Engage in social and cultural orientation, both on campus and in the local community

Student Advantage Week 12 students participated from the Schools of Design and Production, Drama, Filmmaking, and Music 5 Graduate Student Coaches worked with the students throughout the five-day program Over 15 staff members presented sessions and supported the program through attendance at Student Advantage Week events

Graduate Student Coaches Five graduate students hired to work as coaches with selected undergraduates throughout the year Role: University Liaison: Graduate student coaches help their assigned undergraduate students make connections with key staff across campus. Coaches make connections between students and offices on campus to ensure that each one receives the support and encouragement they need. Academic Liaison: Graduate student coaches help to identify the services needed to support students in their academic success. Coaches make connections between students and services including Learning Resources, the Writing Center, the Library, and key faculty and staff in the Arts Schools and the Division of Liberal Arts. Coaches also help to identify gaps in resources currently available so that appropriate steps can be taken to build the necessary services.

Academic Early Warning Report https://www.uncsa.edu/academicreport Faculty encouraged to submit a report for any student concern involving excessive absences, tardiness, low grades, or lack of engagement.
