LAW 17 – THE CORNER KICK Online Training Script: Welcome to U.S. Soccer’s online training for the Grade 9 Referee Course. Training for this course is specific to preparing officials for the small-sided and recreational youth game. This presentation focuses on Law 17 – The Corner Kick. U.S. SOCCER FEDERATION REFEREE PROGRAM GRADE 9 REFEREE COURSE SMALL-SIDED AND RECREATIONAL YOUTH TRAINING

THE CORNER KICK Online Training Script: A corner kick is a method of restarting play, and it is awarded to the attacking team when the ball crosses the goal line, when last touched by a player from the defending team, and without a goal being scored. A goal can be scored directly from a corner kick, and an attacking player cannot be penalized for an offside offense if he or she receives the ball directly from the corner kick. PROCEDURE Online Training Script: The kick is taken from the corner area nearest to where the ball crossed the goal line. The ball is placed within or on the corner arc and the ball is in play once it is kicked and clearly moves. The kicker is not allowed to touch the ball again until it has touched another player. All defending players must be at least ten yards from the corner arc until the corner kick is taken. Classroom Instructor Talking Points:
