Important Vocabulary Words

Drug Any substance that “affects” the way the “mind” and “body” work

Drug Abuse The use of any “drug” in a way that is “unhealthy” or “illegal”

Substance Abuse Using illegal or harmful drugs This includes alcohol if consumed under the drinking age or harmful drugs

Addiction The body’s “mental” or “physical” need for a drug or substance

Depressant A “drug” that “slows "down body functions

Stimulant A “drug” that “speeds” up body functions

Inhalant Substances whose fumes or vapors are inhaled or breathed in

Narcotic Strong drugs that relieve pain *some are prescribed by a doctor

Hallucinogen Illegal drug that causes the user’s brain to create or imagine distorted images or hear thing that don’t exist.
