GREETS YOU!

Bible Reading this Evening: Matthew 9:37-38

Matt. 20:1-16

The workers in the VINEYARD.

Matthew 20:1-16 1 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2 “Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 “And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4 “and said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went. 5 “Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. 6 “And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle, and said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here idle all day?’ 7 “They said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.’ 8 “So when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and give them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.’

9“And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius. 10“But when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received each a denarius. 11“And when they had received it, they complained against the landowner, 12“saying, ‘These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.’ 13“But he answered one of them and said, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14‘Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. 15‘Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’ 16“So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.”

THE SETTING Jesus challenged the young man THE CONVERSATION WITH THE RICH YOUNG RULER - Mt 19:16-22 Jesus had been approached by this man with a question concerning eternal life Jesus challenged the young man

THE DISCUSSION WITH THE DISCIPLES Matthew 19:23-26 THE QUESTION RAISED BY PETER - Mt 19:27

GOD IS CONSTANTLY SEEKING THOSE WHO WILL LABOR IN HIS VINEYARD Who is this Matthew 20:1-3 Ephesians 1:4-6 1 Timothy 2:3-4 1 Peter 3:9 God our Father

WORKERS! What has He gone out to look for? Who are the workers? Any Christian John 9:4 Matthew 9:37-38

His Vineyard Where do we have to work? The vineyard is every Christian that wants to go and work in God’s kingdom. Who did the vineyard represent? Workers In The Kingdom Will Be Rewarded –

For how long were they hired? How much did he offer? A Denarius a day The denarius was the pay for one day of work. It was the wages for one day. For how long were they hired? One day Matt. 20:3-7

In the morning 6:00 am 20:1 The third hour 9:00 am 20:3 The Love of the Father is shown when: He goes out in different hours of the day: In the morning 6:00 am 20:1 The third hour 9:00 am 20:3 The sixth hour 12:00 pm 20:5 The ninth hour 3:00pm 20:5 The eleventh hour 5:00pm 20:6

THE REWARD OF OUR LABORS Pay day came! This is what every worker expects for his day of work 9 “And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius. 10 “But when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received each a denarius.

They are angry and very upset The unsatisfaction 11“And when they had received it, they complained against the landowner, 12“saying, ‘These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.’ They are angry and very upset Complained

Judge ourselves by others: "If they don't, we don’t have to either!" What was these workers’ problem? Who told them that they would receive more? Tendency: Judge ourselves by others: "If they don't, we don’t have to either!" If they receive that, I ought to receive much more because I've done more!" - 20:12 2 Cor. 10:17-18 Gal 6:3-6

Lesson: Beware Of Jealousy In The Kingdom! Rom. 12:3-4, 9-12; Matt. 10:42 Never be jealous of the work of others! Rom. 12:15-16 - Rejoice in blessings others have from God!

God Is Just & Will Fairly Distribute The Heavenly Reward 20:13-16... “But he answered one of them and said, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14‘Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. 15‘Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’ 16“So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.” Fairness exercised Romans 2:6 God's just distribution of His blessings Titus 3:5

None of us deserve heaven! All Laborers In God's Vineyard Will Receive A Reward Far Greater Than They Deserve Luke. 17:10... “10“So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’ ” None of us deserve heaven! Rom. 3:10-12... ““10As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; 11There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. 12They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.”

Both men will receive the same prize from the Lord! The Parable this evening has dealt with the idea that the kingdom of heaven is not about seniority but about faithfulness and obedience. Both men will receive the same prize from the Lord!
