Presentation transcript:

For homework I asked you to list some hobbies Write your name on the sheet but not the name of the activity. Answer the following news questions and people should be able to guess what the activity is. For homework I asked you to list some hobbies What is needed for this activity? Where can it be done? Who do you see doing it? When does this activity usually start and how long does it take? Why do you think it is enjoyable? I need you to spend one minute now thinking about what you are really interested in. What would you enjoy writing a news article about.

You were asked to bring in a newspaper With regard to the main story, could you now ASK 5 W questions. Create 5 questions, each beginning with a different W word. For example – my story – Collen Rooney’s sister died. (1) Who died in the story? (2) Why did she die? (3) Where was Collen? (4)When was this? (5) What was Wayne doing? – All answered on the front page.

All media: Convey information, answering these 5 W questions. Try to engage their target audience.  Include advertisements. Make you think or feel something. May have a hidden bias (politics, religion, culture).

A common exam question: Students are often asked what the differences between newspapers and other forms of media are. What are the pros and cons of each media type?

The internet – You list positive and I list negative

Radio – I list positive and you list negative

TV – you list both

Homework Get a picture of your chosen activity / hobby. Print it, draw it, USB it, cut it out of somewhere, I can photocopy the image for you from a book or magazine. I need a picture I can see to understand what your hobby is.
