Adjectives = words which modify or describe nouns or pronouns. Latin dictionary form of adjectives Nominative Nominative Nominative Meaning Masculine Feminine Neuter fidus fida fidum faithful miser misera miserum poor pulcher pulchra pulchrum beautiful The stem of an adjective = nom. fem. sing. – a stem of fidus = fid stem of miser = miser stem of pulcher = pulchr

Adjective – Noun Agreement (Page 4) An adjective in Latin agrees with the word it modifies in gender, number, and case. Patria nostra est America. Our country is America. Nostra is an adjective modifying patria and is in the nominative case, singular number, feminine gender, agreeing with patria. An adjective used in the predicate after a linking verb is a predicate adjective. America est libera. America is free. The predicate adjective libera describes the subject America of the verb est and is in the nominative case.
