An independent clause has a subject and a predicate and can stand alone as a sentence. Independent clause = Simple sentence

A simple sentence has one complete subject and one complete predicate. People travel. Neither cars nor airplanes are completely safe. Travelers meet new people and see new sights. Trains and buses carry passengers and transport goods.

A compound sentence contains two or more simple sentences (or independent clauses) Many people live in cities , but others build houses in the suburbs. Most people travel to their jobs ; others work at home. Companies relocate to the suburbs ; therefore more people leave the city.

A subordinate, or dependent, clause is a group of words that has a subject and a predicate but cannot stand alone. Subject Predicate who moved here from Montana Since Mariah moved to Springfield that Mariah is friendly
