What do Colleges look for? Do you FIT? 6. Grade Point Average – Universities use a GPA weight index to calculate the relative weight of your GPA. They will add points to all AP classes to compute your GPA in relation to your strength of transcript. In the university’s eyes, you could have a GPA higher than 4.0.

Why take AP? Taking AP is valued in the competitive college admission process. AP courses are interesting and rewarding academic experiences. Opportunity to earn valuable credit and placement in college. 85% of selective colleges and universities report that a student’s AP experience favorably impacts admission decisions.

Why take AP? The percentage of students who complete a four-year degree after taking just one AP course in high school – 59%

Why take AP? AP credits transfer to most any university; CC credits may not. AP classes are taught to a different standard than CC classes. AP instructors teach you the skills required to be successful. University/CC instructors expect you to already know the skills.

First opportunity to take AP is in 9th grade In 2018-19, all junior highs will offer AP Human Geography to 9th graders

AP Offerings at Specific Schools PHS ERHS RHS Capstone 2: (AP Research) Japanese Studio Art Capstone 2 (coming in 2019-20) Capstone 2 (coming in 2019-20) French German Calculus B/C Music Theory Comp Sci A

AP Capstone Diploma Two courses - AP Capstone 1 (Seminar) and Capstone 2 (Research) + 4 other AP classes in grades 9-12 (3 or better on each exam) Synthesize information from multiple perspectives Equip students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills. Apply skills in cross-curricular contexts Collect and analyze information with accuracy and precision Craft, communicate, and defend evidence-based arguments Practice disciplined and scholarly research skills while exploring relevant topics that appeal to your interests and curiosity.

These are colleges that currently recognize AP Capstone as a rigorous course in admissions processes. Three of them currently have credit equivalency agreements and several are considering Capstone as part of admission to their honors college.

What's Next? Spots are available to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders in Capstone 1/Seminar classes. Register for all classes and select “Capstone” as an alternate. Complete requirements of Capstone application. AP Research course offered in 2018-19 at PHS AP Research to RHS and ERHS in 2019-20 Graduate first students with AP diplomas in 2019.
