Possible TV White Space Coexistence Tasks January 2009 Possible TV White Space Coexistence Tasks Date: 2009-01-07 Authors: Steve Shellhammer, Qualcomm Steve Shellhammer, Qualcomm

January 2009 Abstract This presentation describes possible TV white space coexistence tasks Some of these tasks could be addressed by the IEEE 802 executive committee study group while other larger tasks, could be recommended by the SG to be subsequently addressed by other groups Steve Shellhammer, Qualcomm

Possible Tasks for EC SG January 2009 Possible Tasks for EC SG Define a set of coexistence scenarios consisting of multiple networks designed according to different standards Define a set of coexistence metrics used to evaluate the coexistence of multiple networks Define specific target values for these coexistence metrics to ensure sufficient coexistence Compile of list of possible coexistence mechanisms that could subsequently be pursued further Steve Shellhammer, Qualcomm

Possible Tasks beyond EC SG January 2009 Possible Tasks beyond EC SG Develop a standard for coexistence mechanisms between multiple networks operating in the TV white space Steve Shellhammer, Qualcomm

January 2009 Incumbent Protection Though not explicitly a coexistence topic this issue has come up on several coexistence call This is a topic to be considered by the SG in general The EC SG could recommend coordination between WG on incumbent protection Steve Shellhammer, Qualcomm

January 2009 Straw Poll Questions Should the SG develop coexistence scenarios for the TV white space? Should these scenarios be limited to what is permitted under the FCC rules or should they be broader to cover possible rules in other regulatory domains? Should the SG develop coexistence metrics for TV white space? Should the SG agree on target values for the coexistence metrics Should the SG compile a list of possible coexistence mechanisms, to be further investigate subsequently? Should the SG recommend the formation of a new SG to write a PAR and 5C for a standard for coexistence mechanisms in the TV white space? Should the SG recommend coordination between WGs on incumbent protection Steve Shellhammer, Qualcomm
