Planet Earth:. Planet Earth: The Big Picture: “4 spheres”
The Earth System There are 4 of these important systems. The Earth System is a set of systems that work together in making the world we know.
The Earth System.
Planet Earth. Earth is the third planet from the sun. The Earth is filled with tons of living organisms. Organisms are living things. 1.1 PLANET OF LIFE.

The Natural Environment Earth’s environment is broken down into different Spheres These spheres work in harmony and are all connected to each other, resulting.

UNIT 1 STUDYING EARTH. Earth Facts… The third planet from the Sun. One of the inner planets along with Mercury, Venus, and Mars; these planets are made.
By: Dylan Koester.  Definition: Is air  Layer of gases  Saves the earth from the rays of the sun  When you go higher the air thins out  The layers.
By William Garner.  The part of the earth which is covered with water.  Consists of the oceans, seas, lakes, and rivers.  Divided into two categories:
Spheres of Earth.

Biosphere  Bio = Life  Contains ALL living organisms  Smallest to largest, on land or in water.
Earth Systems Overview
The Four Spheres.
Biodiversity & Sustainability. Biomes a large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat, e.g., forest or tundra.

The Spheres of the Earth
Earth Systems Overview The Earth is a system consisting of four major interacting components: the atmosphere, the biosphere, the hydrosphere, and the geosphere.
Unit 4 THE EARTH. The Earth Contains 3 Spheres 1. Hydrosphere - the liquid layer of Earth which covers about 75 % of the planet; includes oceans, lakes,
Spheres By: Hallie Mosher.  Is the solid, rocky crust covering the entire planet.  Without the lithosphere the earth would not change.  It was discovered.
The 4 Spheres.
Components of the Earth. 1.Atmosphere (air) is the gases surrounding the Earth.

Topic 3: Measuring Planet Earth Part 3.2: Structure of the Earth AIM: Describe the composition of Earth’s three spheres.
 Solid portions of the Earth (crust and the upper most portion of the mantle).  Includes rocks, sediments and soils, surface landforms etc.

Presentation transcript:

Parts of the environment – ‘The Earth’s Spheres there are four they work together (interconnect) to make up complex system (earth) they generally meet up at the surface of the lithosphere. a change in one can affect the other e.g. people/cows/greenhouse gases/ climate change

Earth’s spheres LITHOSPHERE (LAND) Reaches to a depth of 65 kms Includes: upper mantle, crust, continents, the ocean floor, mountains, sand and rocks

Earth’s spheres BIOSPHERE (ALL LIVING THINGS) All the living things on the planet Includes: microorganisms, plants animals, humans and insects Thinking: So what is a biosphere reserve (Noosa is one)

Earth’s spheres HYDROSPHERE (WATER) All forms of water on the planet– liquid, solid, gas Includes: groundwater within the lithosphere, rivers, lakes, oceans, glaciers, snow and water vapour in the air Thinking: So what is the main reason we can survive on earth vs. Mars? Interconnected spheres!

Earth’s spheres ATMOSPHERE (AIR) Includes layers of air from less than 1 metre below the earth’s surface to approx. 100 km above Layers are: thermosphere, mesosphere, stratosphere, troposphere Thinking: What layer of the atmosphere does the sound of a fighter jets come from?
