History of Settlement Dutch farmers = Boers British come in 1820 Language molded with Africans Afrikaans 3rd most spoken language 11 total languages in S. Africa Dutch/Europeans called Afrikaners British come in 1820 Mix with native blacks = Coloured Person Asians (India) came in 1860 Work on sugar plantations Britain also in control of India The Zulu language is the number one most spoken language, however only 22% of the population speaks it. Most South African’s do not predominately speak one language.
