The Authority of Christ Mark 1:21-34

(Mk. 1:22) “they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.”

How the Pharisees taught… “Why then did Moses command…” (Mat. 19:7) Jesus’ message was different… “You have heard that it was said to those of old…But I say to you…” (Mat. 5:27-28) “Furthermore it has been said…But I say to you…” (Mat. 5:32) “Again you have heard that it was said to those of old…But I say to you…” (Mat. 5:33-34)

(John 20:30-31) And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. (NKJV)

Jesus Established His Authority Through Miiracles The Problem: “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.” (Mk. 1:27) The Answer: (Luke 4:37) "And the report about Him went out into every place in the surrounding region.”

Why Jesus Established Authority Through Miracles Teaching was a high priority for Him! (Mark 1:21) Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught. (NKJV) (Mark 2:13) “…He went out again by the sea…the multitude came to Him, and He taught them.”   (Mark 4:1) “…again He began to teach by the sea…” (Mark 4:2) “Then He taught them many things by parables, and said to them in His teaching” (Mark 6:6) “…He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching.” (Mark 10:1) “…He ….came to the region of Judea…multitudes gathered to Him again, and as He was accustomed, He taught them again.”

Jesus - even his enemies could not deny that he taught the truth! (Mark 12:14) When they had come, they said to Him, "Teacher, we know that You are true, and care about no one; for You do not regard the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth …” (NKJV) (John 7:45-46) Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why have you not brought Him?" The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this Man!" (NKJV)

Three questions to determine whether or not we are teachable: Am I humble? Am I willing to consider something new? Am I willing to put things you are into practice?
