ITEC 1001 Test 5 Review

PowerPoint Window components 11/29/2018

PowerPoint Normal view In Normal View, you can display up to three panes in addition to the Outline or Slide tab: The Slide Pane shows the current slide The Notes Pane contains notes you might prepare for slides The Task Pane lets you quickly select tasks to work on 11/29/2018

Delete or move slides To delete a slide, select it in the Slide Pane (in Normal View) or in Slide Sorter View, and select the Delete Slide command on the Edit menu. It's easiest to move slides in Slide Sorter View. Click the slide to select it, and drag the slide to its new location. When you select the slide, a thick border line will appear around the slide A vertical line will appear between slides as you drag to indicate where the slide will be inserted if you release the mouse button 11/29/2018

Move a slide in Slide Sorter view This figure shows the slide on the right side of the top row has been selected to be moved. Note the border around the slide. The vertical line between slides 2 and 3 indicates where the slide will go if you release the mouse button now. 11/29/2018

Create speaker notes for slides PowerPoint enables you to create speaking notes to accompany each slide and then print these notes along with a small picture of the slide. You might have short bulleted items on the slide that you want to discuss in greater depth while you deliver the presentation. You can type these notes in the Notes Pane in Normal View, and then print them to use while you speak. You can edit and format notes just as you would any text in the presentation. Notes do not appear in the slide show. 11/29/2018

The Notes pane The Notes pane appears just below the Slide pane. Click in the pane and type any note that is relevant to that slide. The notes will not appear when you run the slide show, but you can print them to have them handy when you make the presentation. 11/29/2018

Check the spelling and style in a presentation PowerPoint has a Spell Checker feature that identifies any word not found in the PowerPoint dictionary with a red, wavy underline. Words marked by the Spell Checker are not always misspelled. Proper names will often be flagged even though they are spelled correctly. 11/29/2018

Print outlines, handouts, and speaker notes PowerPoint provides you with a number of printing options: Print the slides in Outline View, which looks just like what you see on the Outline tab Print handouts with 2, 3, 4, 6, or 9 slides per page Print speaker notes, where a picture of each slide and its corresponding notes appear on one printed page. 11/29/2018

Create, resize, and move text boxes and graphics boxes When modifying your layout, consider not only how it will affect visual appeal, but also how it will affect the information, emphasis, and clarity of the presentation. The graphics you choose should have an obvious relationship to the text on a slide Consistency in positioning helps polish the presentation and prevents objects from "jumping" when you advance from slide to slide. Making such changes in the masters will apply the changes to all slides. 11/29/2018

Resize text boxes The figure on top has its title placeholder selected, and it is going to be resized to make room for a graphic image. The lower figure shows the title placeholder at its new size, and a graphic inserted to its left. 11/29/2018

Add a design template and modify the design using the Slide Masters PowerPoint comes with several presentation design templates. Regardless of whether you use a design template or create your own design, you will make most design changes to the Slide Masters. 11/29/2018

Change a Slide Master A master is a slide that contains the text and other objects that appear on all slides of the same type. PowerPoint presentations have two types of masters: The Title Master contains objects that appear on the title slide The Slide Master contains objects that appear on all slides except the title slide You will use the masters to make design changes that you want to appear on every slide. 11/29/2018

Enter Slide Master view You can edit the Title or the Slide Masters in Slide Master View. To enter Slide Master View, click the View menu, then click Slide Master. 11/29/2018

Modify a Slide Master This figure shows an image on a Slide Master being resized. Changing the image on the Slide Master ensures that the image will look the same on all slides. 11/29/2018

Insert tab stops to align text A tab adds a specific amount of space between the left margin and the beginning of the text on a line. A tab stop is the location to which the insertion point moves when you press the Tab key. PowerPoint supports four tab-stop alignment styles: left tab, center tab, right tab, and decimal tab. 11/29/2018

Tab stop styles This figure illustrates the four tab stop styles available in PowerPoint, and how text appears when used with each type. 11/29/2018

Change the layouts of existing slides You might want to change the layout of a slide for a number of reasons, including adding a clip art placeholder so that you can insert a picture in a slide. PowerPoint enables you to easily change the layout of your slides using the pre-designed layouts in the Slide Layout Task Pane. The available layouts include bulleted list slides, title slides, text and table slides, text and clip art slides, and more. 11/29/2018

Insert and resize pictures and clip-art images PowerPoint comes with a gallery of clip art that you can insert into your presentations. You can modify clip art by changing its size, grouping or ungrouping its components, changing some of its colors, or applying animation effects. You can also insert and modify pictures from other file sources, such as a CD, into your presentations. When you insert a picture or clip art, you might need to adjust the size of the object to fit your layout. To do so, click on the resize handles that appear when the object is selected and drag in or out 11/29/2018

Create a table and a diagram PowerPoint enables you to insert tables into slides in much the same way that you would insert tables into a Word document. Tables are useful on slides when you want to arrange information horizontally in rows and vertically in columns. To insert a table: Click the Table layout on the Slide Layout dialog box Define the number of columns and rows Add information to the table 11/29/2018

Use the Diagram Gallery PowerPoint also enables you to easily add structured illustrations through the use of the Diagram Gallery. With the Diagram Gallery you can create organizational charts, radial diagrams, cycle diagrams, pyramid diagrams, Venn diagrams, and target diagrams. 11/29/2018

Draw and manipulate a simple graphic using AutoShapes PowerPoint's AutoShapes feature enables you to insert items such as lines, connectors, basic shapes, arrows, flowcharts, stars and banners, callouts, and action buttons. You can draw precisely and quickly almost any shape you need using the AutoShapes feature. All you have to do is click and drag. You can move, resize, and delete AutoShapes as you would clip art or other graphics. PowerPoint also gives you options to change the colors, lines, and orientation of the object to your preference. 11/29/2018

Creating a new presentation from a design template Click File on the menu bar, and then click New Click the From design template link in the New Presentation task pane Click the design template you want to use 11/29/2018

Applying a different design template Display the Slide Design templates in the task pane by clicking the Slide Design button on the Formatting toolbar Scroll through the design template thumbnails until you see one you’d like to apply, and then click the design template thumbnail 11/29/2018

Inserting Clip Art On the slide you wish to insert the clip art on, click Format in the menu bar, and then click Slide Layout Scroll down the Slide Layout task pane to choose a slide layout containing a content placeholder Click the Insert Clip Art button in the content placeholder Locate the clip art you wish to insert, and click the OK button 11/29/2018

To do so, click on the resize handles that appear when the object is selected and drag in or out 11/29/2018

Recolor clip art After clicking the clip art you wish to recolor, click the Recolor Picture button on the Picture toolbar. Use the Recolor Picture dialog box to replace old colors in the clip art with new colors of your choice. Click the Preview button in the Recolor Picture Dialog box, and then drag the dialog box by its title bar so that you can see the colors applied to the clip art on the slide. Click the OK button, and then click outside the selected object to deselect it. 11/29/2018

Change a Slide Master A master is a slide that contains the text and other objects that appear on all slides of the same type. PowerPoint presentations have two types of masters: The Title Master contains objects on the title slide The Slide Master contains objects on all slides except the title slide You will use the masters to make design changes that you want to appear on every slide. 11/29/2018

Applying a second design template PowerPoint 2003 now allows you to apply multiple design templates to the same presentation. Navigate to the slide you wish to change from the default design template, and use the Slide Design task pane to locate and select the new design.

The default tab stops on the ruler are left tabs. These can be moved, deleted, or replaced with a different tab stop style. 11/29/2018

You can move, resize, and delete AutoShapes as you would clip art or other graphics. PowerPoint also gives you options to change the colors, lines, and orientation of the object to your preference. 11/29/2018

Use a summary slide A summary slide summarizes your key points by displaying the titles of all or most of the slides in your presentation. You can also use the summary slide feature to generate a table of contents to place at the beginning of the presentation. PowerPoint can automatically generate a summary slide. 11/29/2018
