Objectives 1. To ensure transparency on the global animal disease and zoonosis situation 2. To collect, analyse and disseminate veterinary scientific information 3. To provide expertise and encourage international solidarity in the control of animal diseases 4. Within its mandate under the WTO SPS Agreement, to safeguard world trade by publishing sanitary standards for international trade in animals and animal products 5. To improve the legal framework and resources of national Veterinary Services 6. OIE’s WTO Mandate SPS Agreement recognises OIE as one of three reference organisations for relevant international standards (three sisters) for food safety, the standards established by Codex for animal health and zoonoses, the standards adopted by OIE Member Countries for plant health, the standards developed under the IPPC

Codes of the OIE  Recommend sanitary measures to be used by Veterinary Services Establish health regulations to guarantee sanitary safety of world trade of animals and animal products while avoiding unjustified sanitary barriers
