Morning Routine Children should be lined up at 8:40am. Teachers will collect the class for registration at 8:45am. Children should be in school for Reading for Pleasure If children arrive after 8:55am they must be taken to the class via the office, who will mark them on the register.

Curriculum English – Children will be developing their retelling skills, using role-play and mapping stories to plan their writing and develop understanding of narrative structure. Maths – Children will be developing their understanding of numbers through number recognition and comparing numbers. We will also look at number order and patterns and problem solving. Science – We will be finding out about different materials this term and comparing their properties. We will use our Science enquiry skills to plan investigations. We will also be looking at seasonal changes.

Creative Curriculum - We will be linking our creative topic to History, Geography, Art and D&T this term. In History we will be finding out about our own history and learning about what the past is. We will then be exploring what school was like in the past and comparing it to school today.   In Geography we will be going on a local walk to see what changes are happening in the local area and to use maps. We will complete an information text with the research we gather. Art will involve developing our cutting, sticking and collage skills using the local area as stimulus. We will be finding out about artists and using their work to inspire us.

In D&T we will be creating our own puppets, linking this to our visit to the Museum of Childhood. Computing – we will be learning about e-safety, exploring how the children can stay safe on the internet. We will also learn how to use our log ins and word processing skills RE – The children will be learning about the importance of family, friendship and togetherness. PSHE – We will be discussing our role in the school, and beyond that, in the world. There will be a focus on listening skills and group skills.

Reading Reading Children should be reading every night. Please make sure that you comment on your child’s reading in their yellow reading records. Their books will be changed weekly. Children do a range of reading in school such as: Reading for Pleasure at 8:45am every day Guided Reading (with the teacher), independent reading, Phonics/Comprehension. PLEASE VISIT OUR SCHOOL LIBRARY AFTER SCHOOL, WHICH IS ON THE SECOND FLOOR TO ENCOURAGE READING.

Educational Visits We have several educational visits planned this term. We will be visiting the Museum of Childhood to develop our understanding of what life was like in the past. We will also be doing a local walk as part of our Geography learning.   News letter: You will receive the year group news letter every term to keep you informed of what we will be covering and a few reminders as we begin each new term. Please ensure you read.

PE kits Our PE lessons are on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please ensure that children’s PE T-shirts are in their house colours and black plimsolls or trainers. Any child who does not have their PE Kit will receive a letter home. Please ensure their name is on all PE kit. House colours: Garnet house – red Emerald house – green Citrine house – yellow Sapphire house - blue

Attendance and Punctuality It is vital that children are in on time as this effects their phonics learning. Our Attendance target is 96%. Please inform the office if your child has an appointment during school hours or if your child will be absent. Please inform the office if someone else is collecting your child, so teachers and office staff are aware.

General Information Book bags Children need to bring their book bag and reading books into school every day. Uniform Please write your child’s name an all items of clothing. Any clothing found will be put in the lost property box. The School also sells the School uniform and book bags, please ask a member of staff if you would like to purchase any of these. Zips and laces Please ensure your child can zip up their own coat and do their laces independently.

General Information Meetings If you would like to speak to a teacher or other member of staff, please ensure you arrange this before 8:45am or after 3:30pm each day. If you have any concerns please see staff in the office who will be able to pass on a message or arrange a suitable time for you.

Homework Expectations Children will have a spelling test every Friday based on the spellings they receive for homework. Children will also have a mental maths test from the 5 a day maths book. In your child’s homework book there will be a list of spellings which are what they need to know by the end of this year. Please feel free to slowly work through these if you wish. Please ensure children are taking care of the presentation of their work. Homework of the week – if your child has done very good work at home, this will be selected and displayed in class. Children will also get 2 dojo points for this.

Work Week In the week 3rd December we will have our annual ‘Work Week’. This year we would like to invite parents to come into school and talk about their work and what they do. Please let class teachers know if you are able to do so.

Any questions If you have any questions please feel free to ask your class teacher. Thank you for your continued support!
