Series circuit In a series of a set of batteries or electrical components arranged so that the current passes through each successively.

Picture of series circuit

Open circuit an electrical circuit that is not complete.

Picture of open circuit

Parallel circuit a closed circuit in which the current divides into two or more paths before recombining to complete the circuit.

Picture of parallel circuit

Differences of parallel and series Components of an electrical circuit or electronic circuit can be connected in many different ways. The two simplest of these are called series and parallel and occur frequently. Components connected in series are connected along a single path, so the same current flows through all of the components.
