The Church and the Word

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. God’s words spoke all of creation into existence.

 The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Genesis 2:15-17 The Church and the Word

God has been instructing and guiding His people since their creation.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one  “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.  Deuteronomy 6:4,5 The Church and the Word

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart  And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.  Deuteronomy 6:6,7 The Church and the Word

 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:8,9 The Church and the Word

God wants us to share His word with our children and future generations.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105 The Church and the Word

God’s word illuminates our present and casts light into our future.

And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching…… Acts 2:42 The Church and the Word

The church is called to be devoted to the word of God.

 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. Acts 17:10 The Church and the Word

 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.  Acts 17:11 The Church and the Word

 Many of them therefore believed, with not a few Greek women of high standing as well as men.  Acts 17:12 The Church and the Word

The church is encouraged to study the word of God together.

 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:24,25 The Church and the Word

Each church member is encouraged to study the word so they can offer a reason for their belief.

Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good   Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled,  1 Peter 3:13,14 The Church and the Word

  but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 1 Peter 3:15,16 The Church and the Word

  For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will, than for doing evil. 1 Peter 3:17 The Church and the Word

The people and pursuits that you are devoted to change your life.

  I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1 The Church and the Word

  Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 The Church and the Word
