Writing Sometimes authors use comparisons to describe characters of events in writing. One type of comparison is called a simile. When the wind blows through the Golden Gate, the men cling to the girders like caterpillars on a branch. This simile uses a different event to describe the men’s actions. The author does this to help the reader picture what the men are doing. A simile uses the words like or as to compare one object to another. The spring sky is as blue as a robin’s egg. Can you come up with a simile? Finish writing and revising your character sketch. T89
