Year 1 Science 6.P.1.1. What are waves? “Moving energy” Formed when a force causes vibrations through space or matter Vibrations form wavelike disturbances.
1. Wave - Rhythmic disturbance that carries energy through matter and space ALL WAVES CARRY ENERGY! Pulse – one wave that travels through a medium Continuous.
PROPERTIES OF WAVES. CREST The highest point on the graph of a wave.
Amplitude The max. distance the particles move from the “rest position” to: The more energy a wave has → The greater its amplitude Compression or rarefaction.

Waves. Definitions Wave: a disturbance that transfers energy through a medium. The matter does not experience net movement, but vibrates about some rest.
Waves. Wave are a mechanism for the transfer of energy. – The larger the wave the more energy being moved – To double a wave height requires about 4x.
Waves Do the wave!. Waves A wave carries energy from one place to another There are many kinds of waves that carry energy: Radiation (light), Sound, Seismic,

PROPERTIES OF WAVES. Waves A wave is a means of transferring energy and information from one point to another without there being any transfer of matter.
Waves: Oscillations (back-and-forth or up-and-down motion) that travels from one place to another with a certain velocity (speed and direction.)

WAVE CHARACTERISTICS Although waves come in a variety of forms (such as water waves, light, and seismic waves), they have some properties in common. Wave Length- the distance between two identical points on a wave Amplitude- the vertical distance from the crest (top) to the midpoint of a wave Wave Height- the vertical distance from top to bottom Frequency – the number of waves that pass a point in one second Crest- high point of a wave Trough- low point of a wave waveheight
