1 WAVES Properties of Waves

2 Draw a transverse wave like this in your notes.
Properties of Waves Draw a transverse wave like this in your notes. Crest/peak Wavelength Amplitude Rest  position Trough

3 Properties of Waves

4 Properties of Waves Amplitude – the distance from the midpoint (resting position) to its crest or trough Large amplitude = more energy Small amplitude = less energy Wavelength – the distance from any point on a wave to the identical point on the next wave Shorter wavelength = more energy Longer wavelength = less energy

5 Properties of Waves Crest- the highest point of a transverse wave.
Trough- the lowest point between two crests. Frequency – the number of waves produced in a given amount of time Frequency and wavelength are inversely related If you double frequency, the wavelength will be cut in half and vice versa

6 Properties of Waves

7 Properties of Waves

8 Energy of Waves Chart Draw chart in comp book.
Wave Description Wave Energy Drawing Larger amplitude more energy Small amplitude less energy Shorter wavelength more energy Longer wavelength less energy High frequency more energy Low frequency less energy
