Characteristics of News Timeliness Recent events are more newsworthy than events further in the past.

Characteristics of News Impact Events that affect a large number of people are more newsworthy that events that affect a few people.

Characteristics of News Prominence Events that affect well-known people are more newsworthy than events that affect people who are less well-known.

Characteristics of News Proximity Events that happen nearby are more newsworthy than events that happen in distant locations.

Characteristics of News Singularity— “Unusualness” Things that are unusual are newsworthy.

Characteristics of News Conflict Events which feature conflict are more newsworthy than events that do not.

Characteristics of News Do we have video? Events that otherwise would not be very newsworthy may be included in coverage if pictures/video are available
