About Me Taught sixth grade in Calumet City Taught fifth grade here for the past ten years Attended Illinois Wesleyan with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Hispanic Studies Received my masters in ESL from Concordia University Nationally Board Certified in Literacy Have a daughter, Audrey

Educational Philosophy Believe that every child can and will succeed in my classroom Differentiated instruction Collaborative hands-on activities Believe in growth, not performance

Classroom Check-In Please have student here at 7:45 am Take attendance, lunch count, collect homework and notes, complete morning work all before 8:00 am

Classroom Check-Out Write assignments together Red labeled homework folder Personally check all students as they leave If student habitually is not bringing items home, contact me as soon as possible

Weekly Communication Website Late homework sheet Weekly Sheet with late homework attached and is due on Monday Fun Friday Will contact parent/guardian if there is frequent missing work in any week Send home graded work on Friday - please sign any test below a B

Assessment Letter grades Grades are based mostly on projects, tests, and quizzes. PARCC NWEA (map)

Homework Homework should take about 50 minutes including the 25 minutes of reading Research says homework needs to be purposeful, independent, and not excessive If your child is consistently taking longer, please let me know Students can always stay in for recess or lunch for extra support

iPads Come to school charged every day Please do not download any apps that are not school approved. Please remind your child to maintain their iPad chargers and cords. Your family will have to pay for damage or lost items, but not normal wear and tear.

Birthdays No food for birthdays according to district policy Can bring pencils or stickers as a birthday treat No birthday invitations can be brought to school

Absences Homework make-up Homework sent home if only ill for long periods Email me before 11 am Vacations Contact me asap for homework Student will have to make up work when he/she returns
