Social Workers Views Important because…. Separation of Private and Professional Life Self Disclosure Professional Relationship between social worker and clients Slide 6: Social Workers Views -Important because *I believe strong boundaries are important in order to develop a healthy therapeutic alliance; clients need to feel safe and that what they talk about will be confidential.  -Separation of private life from professional life:   *This is important to me personally.  In the average work day we as social workers hear about our client's trauma's and some/most social workers have experiences their own traumas.  I think self care plays a large role in being a social worker and being able to be mindful of living in the moment with our clients and in our personal lives so we can be our best selves for our clients. -Self-disclosure:   *I use self disclosure; however, it is minimal and used to help client be able to normalize what they are feeling and what they are going through.  I believe it needs to be used cautiously and it doesn't occur with every client, only those that will benefit from the self-disclosure.  -Professional relationship between themselves and clients:   *I think this is related to boundaries; I believe our client's are coming for professional help, if they want to talk to a friend then they would do that rather than come to us.  This goes back to having boundaries to create safety within the relationship.
