How to determine active vs. passive: What is the ACTION of the sentence? Who/what is actually DOING that action? That word should be in the SUBJECT position of the sentence. If it is, ACTIVE If it is not, PASSIVE

Passive. Correct= The gardener watered the flowers. The overdue library books were finally returned. Passive. Correct= The student finally returned the overdue library books.
