Engineering Diploma Level 2 Unit 7 Application of Maintenance Techniques in Engineering In this unit you will get involved with both maintenance procedures and carrying out of maintenance activities. This unit lends itself to support from local workplace providers so you may receive an insight into maintenance activities within a real engineering environment. You will find out about different types of maintenance, carry out routine tasks and a risk assessment for a maintenance activity.

Be able to carry out a risk assessment in a maintenance environment. L2 U7 Learning Outcomes: Understand different types of maintenance for engineering products, plant or equipment including the use of statistical trends. Be able to carry out routine maintenance tasks and devise a maintenance procedure. Understand the effects of poor maintenance and the range of spares and replacement parts. L2 U7 Content: The maintenance of engineering systems is crucial to keeping them running efficiently. Some maintenance is planned in advance and some is needed to repair systems at short notice. As with all engineering activities, maintenance has to be assessed for risk, cost effectiveness and procedures have to be created and followed. Statistics can be used to prepare for things in advance and to make sure spare parts are available. Next >

L2 U7 Content: The consequences of not maintaining engineering systems can include unhappy customers due to poor quality products and can increase the cost of any repairs that need to be carried out. Statistical Analysis Use the data you have been given to analyse the trend that the data predicts. State the relevance and value of this trend. Use the data you have been given to predict the mean-time-to-failure of the equipment and explain the likely consequence. Demonstrate how to carry out a risk assessment and develop a maintenance procedure Risk Assessment You will be given the documentation required for an engineering maintenance procedure and need to carry out a risk assessment for this procedure. Include in your risk assessment how PPE should be correctly used and stored and how health and safety regulations and warning signs should be used Maintenance Procedure Devise a maintenance procedure for an engineering system. The procedure should include sequence to follow, timescales, tooling/resources required, documentation to use, safety practices, relevant diagnostic routines. Spare Parts Identify the spares required for the maintenance procedure that you have designed. Describe what would happen if appropriate stock levels were not maintained. Use a statistical method to show what appropriate levels should be maintained. End >
