A producer is an organism that gets its energy from the sun. Example: sunflower plant.
How do organisms get energy?. Getting Energy Food chain – a sequence of connected producers and consumers Producer – an organism that makes its own food.
Decomposers are organisms that eat dead or decaying organisms. They carry out the natural process of decomposition. Fungi is the primary and most common.

Presentation transcript:

Energy in an Ecosystem Lesson 6

Producer Living things that make their own food

Consumer A living thing that gets its energy from another living thing

Herbivores An animal that eats mainly plants

Carnivore An animal that eats mainly other animals

Omnivore An animal that eats both plants and animals

Decomposers Living things that get energy by breaking down the bodies of dead plants and animals

Scavenger An animal that eats other animals that have been killed by other things

Food Chain A diagram that shows the path of energy as it flows from one living thing to the next

Food Web A diagram that shows several connected food chains

Energy Pyramid A diagram that shows how the amount of energy for consumers changes as it moves through a food chain or food web.
