Presentation transcript:

What is Physical Science? Science is the study of the natural world. It includes all knowledge gained by exploring nature. Physical Science is the study of matter, energy, and the changes they undergo.

Observing Inferring Predicting Scientist need the following skills in order to be successful: Observing Inferring Predicting

Scientist Skills Observing: Using one or more senses to gather information Scientist make both quantitative and qualitative observations Two types of observations: Quantitative observations use measurements to describe (i.e. how tall is it?) 2. Qualitative observations do not use measurements (i.e. what does it look like?) Inferring: Using reason you are able to explain your observations Predicting: Making statements about the future

What do you observe? What do you infer? What do you predict?

The Study of Matter and Energy Two main branches: Chemistry- Is the study of the properties of matter and how matter changes. Physics: Is the study of matter, energy, motion, and forces and how they interact.

Collect and Interpret Data Scientific Inquiry These are the different ways In which scientist study the natural world Pose Questions Form a Hypothesis Design an Experiment Collect and Interpret Data Draw Conclusions Communication Of ideas and results ???
