Enzymes and Catalysts Learning Outcomes Understand that enzymes are catalysts produced by living cells How temperature can affect the rates of enzyme catalysed reactions Its time for the weekly wash in my house, my Mother in-law is down to stay.... Hence the Mask! Somewhere in the country where nothing much happens.... Ever....

Have you ever wondered whats in Washing Powder? Crushed Chalk? Mrs Skunk makes Rosie do some of her chores.....

That's because they have been washed in water! But its not the water that breaks down the food stains, its something else. Do you know what? No can you help me? I Get it now, I will tell Mrs Skunk. Enzymes are biological catalysts - catalysts are substances that increase the rate of chemical reactions without being used up. Enzymes are also proteins that are folded into complex shapes that allow smaller molecules to fit into them The place where these substrate molecules fit is called the active site.

Time to check on my washing... Now I know how it gets clean. Who would have thought it, Washing powder contains enzymes that are responsible for cleaning the clothes! Oh No! The Chief is in the bath.. Where are the clothes! Trying to clean clothes? Well it didnt work, everything was still dirty. You must have denatured the enzymes somehow? !!!
