Major Religions of the World

Christianity: Time frame/Founder Time Frame: Began in the 1st Century AD as a Jewish sect. Founder: Jesus Christ 0-33 AD: rough estimate as there are varying estimations of time of birth and death. Dies Lives Born

Christianity: Basic Beliefs God: God is present in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. (The Holy Trinity) Unique Beliefs: Jesus Christ is the son of God and the “Messiah” that is mentioned in the Old Testament.

Christianity: Basic Beliefs The death of Jesus, followed by his resurrection, is the most important event in history. Through faith in Jesus one can be saved from sin and death. Afterlife: They believe in a resurrection and afterlife.

Most Christians believe in a Heaven and a Hell Most Christians believe in a Heaven and a Hell. It is believed Christ went to Hell after He was crucified to break the chains of Hell and save the souls of the dead, so they could live with God in Heaven.

Christianity: Scripture/Holy Cities/Places of Worship Scripture: New Testament, based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. They also use Old Testament based on Jewish scripture. 90 CE: The Jewish Council of Jamnia decided what sacred texts will be in the Hebrew Bible. But there are many, many other versions and translations of the Bible– over 49 versions in English alone.
