People skills and positive ways of coping Term 4 Health! People skills and positive ways of coping Term 4

SELF-BELIEF My wellbeing goal: to boost my self-belief in my ability to grow good people skills and to find positive ways to cope when things go wrong.

To boost your self-belief: do acts of kindness for others often reflect on how you can cope with challenges when tough things happen If you’re feeling a little low, write down three good things that happened this week, why they happened and how can you make them happen again

Health Assessment: Students will design a personal shield [coat of arms] to display at graduation. This shield will reflect their personal qualities and their aspirations in a visual format

What is a personal shield? We will look into: History of coat of arms/personal shields Some current coat of arms Ideas for symbols and what they might represent Ideas for colours and what they might represent. How sections might be divided up Examples of some simple homemade shields. Remember that you must use some of the Health ideas that we have been studying in our diary’s.

Where did coat of arms originate? The origin of the term coat of arms is in the surcoat, the cloth tunic worn over armour to shield it from the sun's rays. It was unique to the person or family wearing it as it was a visual display representing that person or family.

This is the coat of arms of Sir Edward Stanley, 3rd Earl of Derby This is the coat of arms of Sir Edward Stanley, 3rd Earl of Derby. His motto is in Latin. The images represent what he stands for and who he is connected to politically.

Australia’s coat of arms: What do the images mean?

Emu and Kangaroo were chosen because they are the most well-known native Australian animals large enough to be positioned together in scale holding up the shield. They were chosen to symbolise a nation moving forward, based on the fact that neither animal can move backwards easily – i.e. symbolising progress.  The gold Commonwealth Star above the shield has seven points. One point represents each of the six states and the seventh point represents all the territories. There is a scroll displaying the word ‘Australia’ beneath the shield. The national floral emblem, golden wattle, forms the background. Australia’s national colours are green and gold. Green and gold are colours found in the Australian environment. Gold represents sand, grain, fleece and mining. Green represents trees and crops. Green and gold are also the colours of Australia’s national floral emblem, the golden wattle.
