Guiding Controls A guiding component or control is a component whose mechanical function is to guide the motion of moving parts The guide is what makes the part move in that specific way/direction There are three kinds of guiding Translational Rotational Helical

Translational Guiding Translational guiding ensures the straight translational motion of a moving part Examples: Sliding window – rail/groove Matchbox – cardboard wall Drawer – rail/groove

Rotational Guiding Rotational guiding ensures the rotational motion of a moving part Examples: Desktop globe - axle Door hinge - hinge Car wheel - axle Tape roll - axle

Helical Guiding Helical guiding ensures the translational motion of a motion of a moving part while it rotates about the same axis (translation + rotation) Examples Clamp Screw press Faucet Jar cap
