2018-19 AP® Implementation New AP Resources and Supports RMHS AP Coordinator: Kim Ballard, Assistant Principal RMHS AP Assistant: Patty Iparraguirre, Office Specialist Parent Meeting 9-5-18

STAY INFORMED VIA OUR SCHOOL WEBSITE Please use the RMHS website for updates and information regarding Advanced Placement (AP) courses and testing. http://www.ranchomiragehighsch ool.org/

2018-19 AP Implementation What’s Happening? In the 2018-19 school year, our school will be one of 800 to implement new Advanced Placement Program annual processes, which include fall exam ordering deadlines. Additionally, our AP teachers will have access to an online question bank and other resources to help students practice for AP Exams. Shaping the Future of AP These processes and resources will be available to all AP schools in the 2019-20 school year, one year after our school adopts them. At key points this year, we’ll have opportunities to give feedback to the College Board. We value your input. Our school will use new AP classroom resources and exam ordering processes in 2018-19.

2018-19 AP Implementation: What you need to know Fall exam ordering deadlines: The priority and regular ordering deadlines for 2019 AP Exams are in the fall this year. RMHS fall deadline: November 8, 2018 by 11:59 pm. There are no additional fees, unless exams are ordered late or canceled: The current exam fee remains the same, but students need to know that fees may apply for exams that are ordered after November 8 or canceled by Feb 21. There are new AP classroom resources: We get early access to resources like an AP question bank. Exams and score reporting stay the same: This implementation does not impact the exams our students will take. Scores will be reported on the usual timelines. Testing: May 6-17, 2019 Results: July 2019

2018-19 AP Implementation: Benefits for our school Streamlined exam ordering: AP students and teachers will complete a short online registration process in the first weeks of class. Ms. Ballard will use that information to create the school’s exam order. Time savings: We’ll receive personalized student registration labels (AP ID labels). These labels will reduce time-consuming bubbling of student information on or before exam day. Free resources and supports: We’ll have access to a new online question bank and performance results. AP Calculus and World History teachers will receive additional resources, including unit guides and unit tests developed by AP. Student engagement: Committing to exams at the start of a course is a best practice policy at more than half of all schools offering AP. At these schools, a student is both more likely to take the exam and more likely to earn a score of 3 or higher. These resources will be available at no cost to our school and any of our AP students, even those who choose not to take the AP Exam.

MyAP: new online system

2018-19 AP Implementation: Exam ordering deadlines for RMHS Date Action October 1, 2018 by 3:30 pm All students eligible for fee reductions have submitted their eligibility letter from PSUSD Nutrition Services to Ms. Ballard’s office on or before this date to secure reduced pricing. November 8, 2018 by 11:59 pm. All AP students have committed to their AP exams of choice in the new online system “MyAP” by marking “yes” or “no” for designated AP exams on or before this date. Ms. Ballard will be placing the exam order in November for spring AP testing. Students will receive their testing invoice via e-mail to begin paying their testing fees (payments are permitted). February 21, 2019 by 11:59 pm All testing fees are paid in full by the student/parent for the selected AP exams. Fees apply to any changes in exam orders. May 6-17, 2019 Students take their designated AP exam(s).

2018-19 AP Implementation: Fees Example costs: 2018-19 AP Implementation: Fees Cost Per Exam Cost Per Fee-Reduced Exam* (Not set for RMHS) On-time order by Nov. 8 $94 ($124 for international) $53 ($83 for international) (exam fee - $9 school rebate - $32 fee reduction) Late order after Nov. 8 $134 ($164 for international) (exam fee + $40 late order fee) $93 ($123 for international) (exam fee - $9 school rebate - $32 fee reduction + $40 late order fee) Exam canceled by Feb. 21 $40 ($40 cancellation fee) Exams ordered but not taken Same amount owed as for on-time order (exam fee + other ordering-related fees, if applicable) (reduced exam fee + other ordering-related fees, if applicable) No change to the base exam fee or the $9 per exam school rebate. As before, exams may be ordered late or canceled. However, new fees will apply in 2018-19: Late order fee: $40 additional per exam Cancellation fee: $40 per exam The late-testing fee has been reduced to $40 per exam, and is applied to all students in the same way, when applicable. The unused exam fee no longer applies All other fees are the same as at other AP schools. Please contact Ms. Ballard regarding information on fees.

Fee Reduction Some Rattlers may be eligible to get fee reductions for AP exams. Look for a letter from PSUSD Nutrition Services sent to your home. Bring the letter or 2017 taxes to Ms. Ballard’s office before Oct. 1. This letter will allow you to get a fee reduction for all AP exams. You must resubmit each school year to qualify for fee reduction and fee waivers for PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP, NCAA, and NAIA.
