Comparing Organelles to Body Systems

Cell Wall A stiff wall surrounding the cell membrane of a plant cell needed for protection Responsible for the shape of the cell Body System? Skeletal Protects and gives the organism its shape

Cell Membrane Body Systems? (Skin) and Digestive A barrier between the cytoplasm and the outside of the cell Pulls needed matter through the membrane Controls what enters and leaves the cell Body Systems? (Skin) and Digestive Protects and controls what enters and leaves an organism’s system.

Cytoplasm Body Systems? Skeletal and Circulatory Gel-like fluid in which organelles are supported Transports material within the cell Body Systems? Skeletal and Circulatory Supports organism, transports material around the body

Nucleus The control center of the cell and directs all cell activities Body Systems? Brain and Central Nervous System Controls most body functions

Mitochondrion and Chloroplast Mitochondria releases energy using oxygen The chloroplast produces the cell’s energy Body Systems? Digestive, Respiratory, Circulatory Break down food into molecules used by an organism then combines with oxygen for energy release where needed

Golgi Body Packages and sends out proteins Body System? Digestive Breaks down food and repackages it into tiny molecules for body cells

Ribosomes Manufactures proteins and sends them to the parts of the cell where they are needed Body System? Digestive Takes in food and converts it into needed molecules

Lysosomes and Vacuoles Lysosomes break down cell parts and remove wastes Vacuoles Store waste and necessary materials Body System? Excretory Removes waste from body cells

Endoplasmic Reticulum Transports material from one part of the cell to another Body System? Circulatory Transports material around the entire body
