1 Corinthians 13 Review 1- v.4- ‘kind’- goes out the window when my opinion matters more than your opinion 2- v.4-8- 15 descriptive terms showing action!! 3- v.9-‘prophecy’ was NOT seeing the future, but spiritual edification. I agree, various commentaries use the phrases: explaining scriptures, sacred preaching, opening and explaining scriptures 4- v. 13b- the greatest of these is love!

1 Corinthians 14: 1-22 vs. 1- cultivate love in your heart, and use it to desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may be able to prophesy vs. 2- those speaking in unknown tongues, speak to God because man doesn’t understand him, but he speaks mysteries vs. 3- those prophesying are speaking in common language, words that: edify, exhort, & comfort vs. 4- the one who speaks in tongues edifies himself, he that prophesies, edifies the church vs. 5- I wouldn’t be envious if you all spoke in tongues, but I would prefer you all have the gift of prophesy, so the church is edified

1 Corinthians 14: 1-22 vs. 6- what will I profit you if I speak in tongues, except my speaking be by revelation, knowledge, prophesy, or doctrine vs. 7- even inanimate objects that make sound must be distinct, or who will know what is played. vs. 8- if the trumpet sound is uncertain, who will prepare for battle vs. 9- you might as well speak into the air if you are speaking words which are not understood vs. 10- there are many languages in the world, all are significant

1 Corinthians 14: 1-22 vs. 11- we are as barbarians to one another if we can’t understand one another vs. 12- since you desire spiritual gifts, seek to edify the church vs. 13- pray that you may interpret if you are going to speak in an unknown language vs. 14- if I pray in an unknown language, my spirit is praying, but my understanding is unfruitful vs. 15- what shall I do then, I shall pray and sing with the spirit, and with understanding also

1 Corinthians 14: 1-22 vs. 16- if you bless with the spirit, how can the unlearned say amen since he doesn’t understand what you said vs. 17- you have well given thanks, but some weren’t edified vs. 18- Paul is thankful he speaks in languages more than all of them vs. 19- in church I’d rather speak 5 words that are understood, so that others are taught, than 10,000 words that are not understood vs. 20- brethren, don’t be childish, except where malice is concerned, in understanding, be men

1 Corinthians 14: 1-22 vs. 21- it is written that God would use those of other languages to speak to His people, but they did not listen, they were rebellious vs. 22- languages are for a sign, not to believers but unbelievers, but prophesy is for the believer, not the unbeliever
