1 Edify One Another Text: Romans 15:1-2; 9/17/2018

2 Romans 15:1-2—We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 2 Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification. 9/17/2018

3 God Desires Edification in the Local Church:
Why Was The Gift of Prophecy Superior to the Gift of Tongues? 1 Cor. 14:1-5—Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. 4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification. The tongue speaker edified himself The prophet edified the church 9/17/2018

4 Things We Need to Understand About Edification:
Its about my brother not my rights. Edification is all about our brother. 1 Cor. 10:23-24—All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. 24 Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being. Edification is not something that just happens. Romans 14:19—Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. Edification is motivated by love. 1 Cor. 8:1— Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. Pursue—(Wuest) “to seek after eagerly, earnestly endeavor.” 9/17/2018

5 Things We Need to Understand About Edification:
Edification is all about our brother. Edification is not something that just happens. Edification is motivated by love. Edification is every Christian’s responsibility. Eph. 4:11-12—And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, Christ’s gifts were to equip the saints to edify the body. 9/17/2018

6 Things We Need to Understand About Edification:
Edification is all about our brother. Edification is not something that just happens. Edification is motivated by love. Edification is every Christian’s responsibility. Edification requires application. Eph. 4:11-13— And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 9/17/2018

7 Things We Need to Understand About Edification:
Edification Resulted in Multiplication Edification will result in multiplication. Acts 9:31— Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied. Acts 11:22-24—Then news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch. 23 When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord. 24 For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord. Edification Resulted in Addition 9/17/2018

8 Three Elements That Constitute Edification:
Instruction (What We Should Do) Col. 2:8; John 8:31-32; Motivation (Why We Should Do It) Rev. 22:14; 1 Cor. 8:1; Preparation (How We Do It) 9/17/2018

9 Get Involved in Edification:
Demand Quality Worship Services Demand that song leaders are prepared and then sing out. Demand that men at the Lord’s table are prepared and then focus our heart on the Lord’s sacrifice. Demand powerful and pointed preaching. Demand orderly worship services. Demand others be present and on time. 9/17/2018

10 Get Involved in Edification:
Demand Quality Worship Services Demand Quality Bible Classes Do away with the “consumer mentality”. Review your children’s class material. Prepare yourself and your children for class. 9/17/2018

11 Get Involved in Edification:
Demand Quality Worship Services Demand Quality Bible Classes Demand Something of Yourself 2 Timothy 2:15; 2 Cor. 13:5; Phil. 2:12; 9/17/2018

12 It’s Time To Say: I will never be what Jesus wants me to be until I learn of Him. I will never truly be His until I put His word to work in my life. I will not be what He wants me to be until I require something of myself. 9/17/2018
