Welcome to Mrs. Stumpf’s Classroom Rules & Expectations for the 2014-2015 School Year

#1 Rule You are here to learn not talk! You are welcome to stay in the hallway for as long as you like talking to your friends. But you must be in your seat when the bell rings, or you will be considered tardy. At your desk, get out your planner and record the daily agenda. Remember, the talking stops once you enter the room. If you are caught talking, you will receive a strike. When you receive your 4th strike, you earn a detention. That is until cross country is over. Then you earn an hour of reading & researching with me. Remember, I love Shakespeare. Your very own hour of entertaining me!!! I can’t wait. I love Shakespeare.

Daily Edit Every week, one person will be selected to pass out the journals and graded papers. This person is the only person who should be out of his or her seat without permission. All other students should be completing the daily edit in their journals. Date—08/15/14 or August 15, 2014 Write the daily edit with all corrections. Be prepared to be called on to correctly identify all errors in order. Example: yesterday sam run home with a note from his teacher mr t? 08/15/12 Yesterday, Sam ran home with a note from his teacher Mr. T. 5 points will be given for each daily edit. If you are absent, you need to make this up.

Rule #2: Students must be prepared for class. If you do not come to class prepared, and you need to return to your locker, you will be counted tardy. Every day bring the following items to class: Pencil and grading pen Writing journal 2 inch 3-ring notebook—with notebook paper in it. Library book Text book if there is a sign next to the door stating to bring text book to class. Always bring a library book!!!!! This is for a grade!

Rule # 3: Homework must be turned in on time. A due date will be given for all homework. If you do not turn your homework in when it is due, you have until the end of the day to turn it in. At that time, you will need to inform your parents that you did not turn in your homework. (Missing Assignment Form) You may do an extra credit assignment or assignments to help your grade.

Absent from School When you are absent from school, it is your responsibility to get your admit slip. The weekly agenda will be posted at the front of the room by the door. This is where you will find your assignment. Retrieve your assignment, complete the daily edit, and fill out your planner & admit slip. At the end of class, you need to bring your admit slip to me for my signature. I will give you a minimum of 5 minutes at the end of class to get this done. You will need to do this before passing to the next class . This is your responsibility!

When is this make-up work due? Make-up work is due 2 days from the day you were absent from school. Example: You are gone on Monday; your make-up work is due on Wednesday. If you are gone 2 consecutive days, you have 2 days for the first day & 1 day for every other day. Example: You are gone Monday & Tuesday; your homework is due on Friday. But remember, you can get your assignments on my website: Mrsstumpfs7th.weebly.com.

My Website-MrsStumpfs7th.weebly.com Homepage—information about me & website Lesson Plans—what is going on this week Students’ Writing—Published works 1st hour’s news—newspaper 3rd hour’s news--newspaper 4th hour’s news--newspaper Links—E-mail, powerschool, examples Extras—contact information Blog—What I am thinking!!!

Newspapers One newspaper each 9 weeks Each week a group will be assigned the classroom news. This group will know a week in advance when their newspaper is due. For this reason, I would start the week before it is due. Each person in the group must write a story and type it on the Smilebox. Stories do not have to be lengthy, but the story must be informative, include pictures, captions, title, and by-line. Each newspaper staff will have 3-4 writers on it.

Newspapers Continued The first newspaper will be due August 29, 14. Each newspaper staff will need to meet and complete an assignment handout. Personally, I would then write my topic down in my planner with the due date. Remember, you may ask for editing help from your peers or myself. I will be grading on completion of entire paper, your article, pictures, captions, title, by-line, and the mechanics of your writing.

Any Questions? Do you have any questions? If not, then the following is your first assignment. Take this handout home to your parents. Log on to my site: Mrsstumpfs7th.weebly.com Go to Links click on Welcome Power Point and go over my rules and expectations with your parents. Then have your parents cruise around the website. Let them take a visual tour of our classroom, and this time, you are the tour guide. After you have completed this task, ask your parents to fill out the information under extras. If you are unable to access this information on the computer, your parents may fill out the form included with this handout.

Welcome
