Services mock-up Full-scale mock-up of one half end-cap. 9 disks + alignment disk + bulkhead. Disk spacing as in Aachen drawing cms1348L (Note: disagrees with Breuker parameter booklet!) Multi-service cables Fibre-optic ribbons Cooling pipes 17/11/2018 Nick Lumb

Cooling tubes Compact mechanics allows MSC to be tightly packed around tubes 17/11/2018 Nick Lumb

Cooling (cont.) Petal manifold 3mm too low with respect to disk Flexible section 17/11/2018 Nick Lumb

Multi-service cables Space problem at bulkhead Requires mods to BH at 80/260 degree radials Agreed with pixel group Same problem at 170/350 degrees 17/11/2018 Nick Lumb

MSC (cont.) Bonnevaux cabling scheme at bulkhead seems to work. 17/11/2018 Nick Lumb

Optical read-out Checked fibre lengths on dummy petals Space in service channels to thread ribbon connectors 17/11/2018 Nick Lumb

Optical read-out (cont.) Mechanics allows fan-out adapters to be withdrawn to edge of disk. Honeycomb plate prevents fibres from touching petals on opposite disk. Avoid conflicts with alignment lasers. Checked motion of fibres and ribbons during insertion/removal. Determined length of ribbon needed to exit service channel. 17/11/2018 Nick Lumb

Opto ribbon lengths (1) Total length = AB (390 mm) + BC + CD + DE + 100 mm + 200 mm 17/11/2018 Nick Lumb

Ribbon lengths (2) Service channel section filled with flat cable. Bundles routed to cassette sectors. Lengths averaged for 8 cables per bundle. Reference point at z=2910, r=1300. Repeated for all phi positions. 17/11/2018 Nick Lumb

Ribbon lengths (3) 17/11/2018 Nick Lumb

Ribbon lengths (4) All lengths include 300 mm of free fibre. Final lengths rounded up to nearest batch length. Batches 4050 to 6000 mm, step size 150 mm. Spares: approximately 5% in each batch. Final tables submitted to F. Vasey. 17/11/2018 Nick Lumb

To do Verify MSC routing at bulkhead 170/350 degree radials. Determine cable lengths at bulkhead for all phi positions. Study possibility of not using fixation plate for MSCs at bulkhead. Investigate scheme for gas sealing and check space available is OK. Build serious prototypes for: Fan-out adapter mechanics; Mechanics to fix cooling tubes to disks; Cooling loops (outsourced to industry). 17/11/2018 Nick Lumb
