1 ATLAS Internal ID Service Integration
An update on service layout proposals by the UK John Hill

2 Recent Developments Detailed schemes and layouts produced at RAL
Prototype manufacture of components. Duct, covers and connector block Dummy assembly of ‘Service Module’ progressing. Dummy cooling pipes added to assembly Schemes and progress presented to CERN Integration Group. Much interest shown in the design, positive feedback with some comments mainly on manifold layout and electrical connectors Successful interaction of ID information with CERN and Valencia. Some areas require further development and study. Gas sealing, thermal transition of cooling, grounding and component location

3 ID Service Module Component Update

4 SERVICES POTENTIAL ACCESS FOR COOLING MANIFOLDS Section showing Service Module and PP location at end of ID (figures based on Strawman Spt 2009)

5 With the Service module partially constructed and using the full size mock up at RAL we can now adopt this structure to investigate Inner Detector fitting and further optimise cooling pipe layouts to staves Construction of service module Cooling Pip ‘Tree’ Another view of manual Fitting of SM Connector block end (PP) Manual Fitting of SM

Recent Developments – prototype development of cooling pipes and manifolds End of Duct (Showing cooling pipe pathway) Current Manifold layout Service Module (with cooling pipes)

7 Alternative connector solutions have also been modelled and can be investigated further on ID Mock Up Layouts using alternative ‘Fischer’ connectors, separating DCS and Power services (these are hermetically sealed units) Hermetic seal made here Layouts using CERN Axon connector (mounted on PCB) and fitted onto connector panel

8 Modelling area of Thermal Transition (SM to PP)
It is planned to make dummy components for SM prototype at RAL using ‘Insulating’ material backed with c-f sheet

9 SIDE VIEWS OF ID AND SINGLE SM
SERVICE MODULE COMPLETE AND TESTED SERVICE MODULE INSERTED INTO ID CYLINDER SERVICE MODULE FIXED, PIPES WELDED/TESTED REMAINING SERVICES CONNECTED AND TESTED SIDE VIEWS OF ID AND SINGLE SM

10 Future work plans Development work to continue on the SM prototype and integration on to ID mock up at RAL Complete cooling layout to progress with welding trials on ID mock up Potential to weld up a section of cooling with manifold to undertake pressure tests Look at alternatives to manifold layout within SM Maintain Service Module documentation for future reviews Failure and risk analysis, list and document for service module design Continue to develop service and design links, exchange ideas with CERN and Valencia
