Coriolis Technology This explanation of Coriolis technology answers the following questions: What is a Coriolis meter? How does it work? Why use a Coriolis meter?

What is a Coriolis meter? A Coriolis meter is a multi-variable measurement device. It provides for the indication of: Mass Density Volume

What is a Coriolis meter? Sensor Electronics Peripheral device MICRO MOTION

What is a Coriolis meter? Sensor Housing

What is a Coriolis meter? Flow tubes

What is a Coriolis meter? Flow splitter (Manifold)

What is a Coriolis meter? Drive coil assembly

What is a Coriolis meter? Left pick-off coil assembly Right pick-off coil assembly

What is a Coriolis meter? 3-wire platinum RTD

Coriolis Technology This explanation of Coriolis technology answers the following questions: What is a Coriolis meter? How does it work? Why use a Coriolis meter?

How does it work? Drive coil causes tubes to vibrate at natural frequency. Electronics provide energy to drive coil, accept signals from pick-off coils, and output values for mass, volume, density, and temperature. MICRO MOTION Pick-off coils generate sign waves used to indicate position of tubes to each other.

How does it work? Time mV High Density Low Density Coil Magnet

How does it work? Mass and density are measured. Volume is calculated. Volume (gal/min) = Mass rate (lb/min) Density (lb/gal)

Coriolis Technology This explanation of Coriolis technology answers the following questions: What is a Coriolis meter? How does it work? Why use a Coriolis meter?

Why use a Coriolis meter? Multi-Variable Measurement Mass, Density, and Volume Non-Intrusive - reduced maintenance No moving parts - no mechanical parts to wear Measures fluids laden with solids (ie sand) Not damaged by slugs of air Simple, Compact Installation No straight pipe runs required Accuracy High turndown ratio Reduced drift in accuracy due to wear

Why use a Coriolis meter? Simple, compact installation. Crude oil gathering station Two 3-inch and one 2-inch ELITE meters flowing into larger pipeline

Why use a Coriolis meter? Simple, compact installation. 3-inch ELITE meter in pipeline custody transfer of crude oil in suburban location Replaced troublesome PD meter

Why use a Coriolis meter? Simple, compact installation.

Why use a Coriolis meter? Simple, compact installation. 3-inch ELITE meter used to measure crude from tanks

Why use a Coriolis meter? Simple, compact installation. Slipstream installation - density measurement Strainer is source of slipstream pressure differential for flow through Flow rate through Coriolis sensor can indicate the basket’s need for cleaning

Why use a Coriolis meter? Multi-Variable Measurement Mass, Density, and Volume Non-Intrusive - reduced maintenance No moving parts - no mechanical parts to wear Measures slurries Not damaged by slugs of air Simple, Compact Installation No straight pipe runs required Accuracy High turndown ratio Reduced drift in accuracy due to wear
