Key Standards MC C8.NS.1 Know that numbers that are not rational are called irrational. Understand informally that every number has a decimal expansion;
 Can be put in fractional form  The decimal form of the number either terminates (ends) or repeats.  Counting numbers, whole numbers, integers and.

Vocabulary: Rational number: ANY number that can be written as a FRACTION Every rational number can be written as either a terminating decimal or repeating.
Decimals and fractions To convert a decimal to a fraction 1.Write the whole number part, if necessary. 2.Write the digits following the decimal point as.
Part of a set or part of a whole. 3 4 =Numerator the number of parts = Denominator the number that equals the whole.
Rational Numbers SWBAT identify rational numbers; identify rational numbers as termination or nonterminating repeating decimal; locate rational numbers.
Converting Fractions to Decimals. Parts of a Fraction 3 4 = the number of parts = the total number of parts that equal a whole.
Converting Decimals to Fractions Goal: use place values to make fractions.

If I have 6 1 2 pumpkin pies, it looks like this…

6 whole pies + one half of pie OR 6+ 1 2

How do we change this fraction into a decimal? Leave the 6 whole pies and change the 1 2 pie into a decimal.

To write a fraction as a decimal, first, divide the numerator by the denominator. Then, add the whole 6 pies . 5 1 2 = 2)1.00 - 1 0 6.50

Terminating OR Repeating Decimals can be either Terminating OR Repeating Terminating – A decimal that ends Repeating – A decimal that repeats

PRACTICE 3 4 = Terminating decimal Divide the numerator by the denominator. . 7 5 3 4 = 4)3.00 - 2 8 Terminating decimal 2 - 2 0

PRACTICE 1 3 = Repeating decimal Divide the numerator by the denominator. . 3 3 = 0.3 1 3 = 3)1.00 - 9 Repeating decimal 1 - 9 1

PRACTICE 6 . 5 26 4 = 4)26.00 - 2 4 2 - 2 0 Terminating decimal

YOUR TURN TO PRACTICE 15 4 = 3 5 6 = 11 3 =
