Presentation transcript:

20th November 2017

the United nations convention on the rights of the child The most widely ratified (approved) treaty in the world. It applies to everyone under 18.

Which is the most important right for children?

St Mary’s is a Level 2 Rights Respecting School.

OUTRIGHT 2017

What is OutRight? OutRight is a special campaign for schools in the UK that empowers you to speak out about children’s rights on World Children’s Day (20 November). It’s a campaign for children, by children.

Rights like… The right to protection for unaccompanied refugee children.

Rights like… The right to be reunited with family if they live in a different country.

So, what’s the problem? Right now, refugee children are in danger. 50 million children have been uprooted from their homes, most forced to flee from violent conflict. Many of them are making dangerous journeys, risking their lives in search of safety and close family.

How could we help? If we do nothing then nothing changes. We can tell our community and our local MP what we think, to help make the family reunion law fairer.

Paddington and outright Did you know that Paddington is a young refugee? After a disaster struck his home in darkest Peru, he had to travel to London to find a new, safe home. Paddington is helping Unicef with the OutRight campaign this year.
