2. Finding peace for Malik
Like Mary before her, and so many Syrian refugees around her, Malik’s mother has been longing to find a safe place to raise her son, away from danger.
So she and her husband fled their home…

3. Eight year old Malik and his family stayed with relatives when they first arrived in Lebanon.
But Malik lives with significant disabilities; and his cousins bullied him.
So the family were forced to move again to a small apartment they struggle to afford.

4. At last Malik is safe now…
His mother says: ‘all that matters to me is that we live alone so I can protect my son’.
But they are not alone. And true peace is more than the absence of violence.

5. Now Malik is receiving education and healthcare at one of Embrace’s partners’ centres.
And he has lots of friends… he’s loving it!

6. His mother says,
‘Malik is so popular here! The society looks at a handicapped person with pity and shame, but here everyone looks at him like he’s important. They give us dignity.’

7. One of the staff at Embrace’s partner in Lebanon says:
‘We work to take on the challenge of poverty we see around us.
‘Every day we have new families arriving and that’s been happening for years now.
‘I think we need to not only pray, but work to end this violent war and on practical levels we also want to pray for continued safety.’
