Duncanrig Secondary School Parents as Partners Purpose of this evening To provide you with guidance on how you can help your child get the most from her/his first year at Duncanrig. An opportunity to talk to staff who can help and advise. Duncanrig Secondary School

How Can I Support My Child? Duncanrig Secondary School Outline of the evening Introduction by Head of S1 Presentation by Headteacher Presentation by PT Support for Learning Presentations in groups. The evening will last no more that 90 minutes 15 4 x 15 Duncanrig Secondary School

How Can I Support My Child? Duncanrig Secondary School Encourage Work Together Support Be positive with your child, show belief in his/her abilities and agree realistic targets for success in each subject. Do not leave him/her to get on with preparation. Be a part of the exam preparation process, know the key dates and key events before and during the exam schedule. Interact regularly and meaningfully with your child in the run up to the exams. Keep tabs on how he/she is spending his/her time. Try to avoid the temptation to nag. Be supportive in any way you can: personal help, advice, finding time for them to prepare, helping to create an environment at home that is conducive to effective study. Duncanrig Secondary School

Be interested. Be a partner in his/her journey through S1. Try to help with homework. Talk regularly with your child. Keep tabs on how he/she is spending his/her time. The value of good routines is huge. Help to establish these. Good routines build good habits and goods habits make a huge contribution to successful learning. You have to encourage good habits and keep talking to your child to ensure that the good routines are being followed. Don’t be fobbed off with “Of course I am”. Make sure for yourself. Diary Planner! Check the school bag! Ensure that your child attends school as often as possible and that he/she has the proper attitude to school.
