COMPANY LOGOS PROJECT

Project Scenarios STUDENT CURRENT CLASS GRADE PROJECT GRADE FINAL M.P. 2 GRADE A 90% 50% 74% B 60% 95%

Purpose of the Project Discover and communicate the meaning and history of various company logos. Determine how these logos may be connected to the company itself Present your results in either an artistic, literary (written), or PowerPoint format.

Visual Presentation If you choose to do the visual presentation, you must sketch and color each logo by hand. Steps will be taken to verify the accuracy of this step. The color, shape, texture, visual characteristics and scale (size proportions) must be as close to the original logo as possible. The artwork must be done on white poster board. No exceptions. During your presentation of your work to the class, you must explain the history of the following: The company The logo How the logo may (or may not) be connected to the company and their slogan

Literary Presentation If you choose to do the literary presentation, you must write an essay consisting of one-page (three paragraphs) per logo, where each of the paragraphs describes the following: The company The logo How the logo may be connected to the company and their advertising slogan One paragraph consists of at least three (3) reasonably detailed sentences. The essay must be typed in Courier New 12, double-spaced, and typed in essay format. You must present your work to the class, based on your own summary of each paragraph.

Literary Presentation (cont.) ANY FORM OF PLAGERISM WILL RESULT IN A PROJECT GRADE OF “ZERO.” You’re written work must be based on accurate, referenced data and must be written in your own words.

PowerPoint You must have between 3-5 slides per logo in your presentation (your judgment) Your grading will be based on the following elements: Design Color Movement (animation, animated gif, etc.) Content Evidence of your research

Grading Grading will be based on the following criteria: Visual: Difficulty of logo detail How similar the artwork resembles the original logo The larger the size of the logo, the better the grade (up to a point). Design/Color: 50% Content/Research/Evidence: 50% Literary: Whether or not the paper met all of the length and detail requirements How relevant the description of the history is to the logo itself and to the presentation The accuracy of the work PowerPoint: Design/Color/Movement: 25% Content/Research/Evidence: 75% How you design your slides is completely up to you. The key with your grade will be: did you do your research. The slides must demonstrate that you have fully researched the company and logo

Grading (cont.) Grading rubric will be used for this project. This project will be graded as 40% of the marking period (equivalent of four test grades). If you are working in a team, each team member will receive the AVERAGE of the two grades. So if “Johnny” received a 90% for his part and “Stacey” received an 80% for her part, each student will earn a grade of 85%.

Quantity of Work 10 logos per student or team Choices: Work by yourself Work with one peer (2 people total) Both team members must present an equal amount of information to the class, regardless of what type of work they did 10% bonus for working by yourself

Due Date/Misc. The project due date is Monday, Dec. 14 Teams or individuals will be selected randomly each day to present the work. If you are not prepared to present your work on the day you were selected, you (and your team member, if team-based) will received a “zero” as the project grade. If you OR your team member is absent on the day you were scheduled to present, the person absent will present on the next scheduled school day and the person present will present that day.
