Energy Efficiency (E2): Energy Management Topics for Today Energy Efficiency (E2): Energy Management Cost-saving examples & opportunities Financial resources KPPC as a technical resource

Understand the use of energy as related to on-site operations: Energy Efficiency (E2) Understand the use of energy as related to on-site operations: Utility Bill Analysis Rates Costs Usage vs Climate EUI, ECI Track Energy Use using Energy Star Portfolio Manager

Energy Efficiency (E2) Identify actions to better manage the use and cost of energy by maximizing efficiency through means such as: Lighting improvements HVAC & boiler system improvements Building envelope Compressed air & motor operations Behavior modifications

Why Manage Energy? Energy costs are controllable and can be proactively managed as part of your business operations by considering: Cost control Competitive advantage Carbon footprint reduction Unpredictable energy prices Risks of supply reliability Impacts of energy-related legislation

Municipal Facility – Energy Savings Opportunities This was a four story office building with a bank on the ground floor—lots of computers and other plug loads. By utilizing power strips the occupants eliminated “Phantom Loads”; they also implemented a computer hibernation policy. They adjusted the intake temperature on the air handler and used programmable thermostats to reduce heat & A/C nights and weekend.

Municipal Facility - Utility Expense Reduction Total Savings 16%

Restaurant – Energy Savings Opportunities

Restaurant Utility – Utility Expense Reduction Total Savings 19%

No-Cost/Low-Cost Energy Efficiency Ideas Establish an Energy Management Team Talk to your Utility Representative TOYS: Turn Off Your Stuff Set back thermostats Install LED exit signs Regulate vending machines Activate computer hibernation Install power strips Our first recommendation - when companies form and empower cross-functional energy teams they usually find savings that take little or no cash outlay to implement. Our experience has show an average of 3% savings just by making people aware of energy use and making behavioral changes (turning things off; HVAC set backs, production schedule changes)

Financing Aid Utility Incentives Database of State Incentives for Energy (DSIRE) Energy Project Assessment Districts (EPAD)

So Now What??

You Are Not Alone Provide technical support through environmental sustainability training & one-on-one assistance Coaching assistance e-mail phone web-based conferencing On-site visit Workshops/Webinars

How can KPPC help? Evaluate current situation and discuss approaches Provide checklists Conduct Utility Bill Analysis to evaluate energy use and cost Estimate investment, energy savings, and payback period for opportunities Connect to financial and technical resources
