DO NOW V: 0 Monday May 4, 2015 On your DO NOW sheet, identify the independent variable, dependent variable, control, and 3 constants in the following experiment. Ellie wants to know how much light her plants need. She puts all the plants outside in the same place at 11:00am. She leaves Plant A outside for 2 hours, Plant B for 4 hours, and Plant C for 6 hours. She gives each plant the same amount of water at 9:00am everyday. She notices that Plant A grows the best.

Homework & Agenda V: 0 Homework Grade Level: Pre-AP: Today’s Agenda Pick Experiment Research Experiment Experiment Setup

TEKS V: 0 The student is expected to: (A) plan and implement comparative and descriptive investigations by making observations, asking well-defined questions, and using appropriate equipment and technology; (B) design and implement comparative and experimental investigations by making observations, asking well-defined questions, formulating testable hypotheses, and using appropriate equipment and technology; (C) collect and record data using the International System of Units (SI) and qualitative means such as labeled drawings, writing, and graphic organizers; (D) construct tables and graphs, using repeated trials and means, to organize data and identify patterns; and (E) analyze data to formulate reasonable explanations, communicate valid conclusions supported by the data, and predict trends.

Vocabulary V: 0 Scientific Method Hypothesis Dependent Variable Independent Variable Constant Control Analysis Conclusion

EQs & Objectives V: 0 ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: DAILY OBJECTIVES: How do scientists make conclusions about the world? Why does scientific information change? DAILY OBJECTIVES: Students will… Write research a topic so they can create an experiment.

Pick Experiment V: 0 With your group, pick your experiment. (Phil’s list of experiment may be different than yours) 1. What is the viscosity of different liquids? 2. Does size affect parachute flight? 3. How does age/gender affect reaction time? 4. How do gases contract or expand? (Balloon lab in different temperatures) 5. What makes ice melt the fastest? 6. What type of flour has the most gluten? 7. How greasy are your potato chips? 8. How does the salinity affect the buoyancy of an egg? 9. How does the temperature of a tennis ball affect its bounce height? 10. Which brand of paper towel can hold the most liquid?

Research V: 0 Using the computers, research your topic. With your research, create a problem/question. Then, begin creating the following: - Hypothesis - Materials List - Procedure

DO NOW V: 0 Tuesday May 5, 2015 On your DO NOW sheet… List 3 things you need to get accomplished today. HINT: Think of the steps for the scientific method.
