2015 AHA Guidelines New 2015 AHA Guidelines Released October 15th at 12:01 am Lots of rumors about what the new changes will be. AHA is legally bound to maintain standard confidentiality until the above release date. Update material will be on the AHA Instructor Network along with standard transition info. Be sure you can access your Instructor Network Account. If you cannot remember your username/password, do not create a new account. This will assign a new instructor id #. AHA will provide a timeline for this transition.

AHA eCards eCards are now available for distribution eCards are virtual certification cards that you can issue at the time of the class. You can pre-purchase eCards eCards are stored on your Instructor Network account. eCards are issued via email to the student. Student must have email access. The student must Claim the eCard before it is active. The eCard User Guide is on the Instructor Network under the “Additional Tools” tab. Please download and read! We will continue supporting Instructors who wish to issue the traditional paper certification cards. That process will not change. The Price for eCard is the same as the Paper card.

AHA eBooks AHA eBooks The AHA eBooks Store is now available at http://eBooks.heart.org. In response to many customers and volunteer requests, the AHA has created an additional way to distribute lifesaving information. These eBooks are electronic versions of AHA’s course manuals and reference materials and provide an alternative to AHA’s printed materials. AHA eBooks: Guidance for TCs and Instructors: Like printed manuals, each eBook is for use by a single student before, during and after class, and TCCs are responsible for making sure that every student has a book or eBook for use before, during and after class. The AHA encourages TCCs and/or Instructors to work to amend any policies disallowing electronic devices in classrooms so that eBooks may be used in classroom settings. We understand that certain training facilities may not have Internet/Wi-F access, the AHA is also advising students, via a message on the eBooks Store, to please check with their TC/Instructor prior to purchasing eBooks to ensure that devices are allowed and supported in the classrooms. Please note: if Internet/Wi-Fi access is not available, students may be advised to use an off-line reader to access their eBook(s) during class. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Prehospital Providers The Basic Life Support (BLS) for Prehospital Providers course covers the same objectives as BLS for Healthcare Providers, but is specifically designed to meet the needs of the EMS market. Consisting of both online and classroom components, this course leverages the "flipping the classroom" educational trend by exposing students to course material online before entering the classroom, and using class time for discussion and practice. This course covers: • critical concepts of high-quality CPR • the American Heart Association Chain of Survival • 1- and 2-rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child, and infant • differences between adult, child, and infant rescue techniques • bag-mask techniques for adult, child, and infant • rescue breathing for adult, child, and infant • relief of choking for adult, child, and infant • CPR with an advanced airway • high-performance teams. This course is intended for prehospital, emergency-care professionals who have previously received training in BLS and CPR, including: • emergency medical technicians (EMTs) • advanced EMTs • police officers • firefighters • paramedics. Students must complete the online portion, including passing the online exam with a score of 84% or higher, before attending the classroom portion. Successful completion of all sections results in a BLS for Healthcare Providers course completion card. Course length is approximately 4.5 hours total for the self-paced online portion (approximately 30-90 minutes) plus the classroom portion.
