College or university?

Types of Credit Dual Credit is a program that allows high school students to enroll in college courses for credit prior to high school graduation. Advanced Placement (AP) Credit- One great benefit of taking AP Exams is the opportunity to earn college credit and placement. Nearly all colleges and universities in the United States grant credit and placement for qualifying AP scores.

Terms to know Developmental classes a. remedial classes required for students who do not meet the minimum requirements of knowledge in a subject b. do not generate college hours that apply to a degree College hours a. the term used to denote the amount of credit one receives upon successful completion of a class or course b. a reference for how long a student will spend in the classroom each week

Terms to know Residency- a determinant in tuition fees for college students Major- the main area of study in college Minor- a secondary area of study in college GPA- Grade Point average (on scale of 4.0)

Testing TSI Assessment (Texas Success Initiative) is the only state-approved test to assess reading, writing, and math skills for college level placement. The HESI A2 Exam is an admission requirement for several of school’s allied health programs. The HESI A2 Exam consists of seven academic exams and a personality profile that identifies the applicant’s learning style.

Testing SAT/ ACT-The SAT and ACT generally test the same types of content. Both ACT and SAT scores are used for college admissions and merit-based scholarships. The biggest differences between the tests are that the ACT has a Science Test, and there’s one SAT Math Section for which you cannot use a calculator. Colleges don't prefer one over the other, so explore both tests to decide which one is right for you.
