3.11(D) describe the characteristics of the Sun.

The sun is made up of layers of gases, mostly hydrogen and helium. Photosphere

The center of the sun is called the core. Photosphere

Photosphere: the surface of the sun and the part that we can see from Earth.

Sunspots are cooler than the rest of the surface.

Solar flares are sudden burst of energy from the photosphere.

Solar Flare

Solar Prominence are sudden burst of energy that form a loop or a sheet.

Solar Prominence

The Corona

The Corona is the sun’s atmosphere.

Solar Eclipse

What we see from Earth

Total eclipse as seen from Earth Total eclipse as seen from Earth. The glow seen around the sun is the corona.

The sun is our closest star.

It is the reason for all life in our planet, winds, weather, the cycles (water, nitrogen, carbon-oxygen).
