Hardware (internal parts) Inside of System unit

System unit

Mather board Main system board of the computer (also system board).

Mather board

Input Output ports

Secondary Storage Hard Disk Drive Major secondary-storage device for desktop/tower computers. Consists of one or more hard drive platters (hard disks) inside of an air sealed casing.

RAM

RAM Vs ROM RAM (Random Acces Memory) •Stores data temporarily. •Current running applications. •Higher capacity (Mbytes). •Need a refresh not to loose data. •Volatile (loses data when turned off). ROM (Read Only Memory) •Stores BIOS for ruing the system. •No-Volatile •Low capacity (Kbytes).

RAM

CPU

CPU A CPU, or Central Processing Unit, is effectively the "brains" of the computer. Traditionally, the term "CPU" refers to a processor, more specifically to its processing unit and control unit (CU)

PCI Slots PCI cards can be connected to PCI slots placed on the mother board. This diverse purpose cards will appear perpendicular to the main board. Their external connectors will be accessible from the rear part in the PC tower.

AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) Graphic card output Graphic card connected to the AGP Port Graphic card

Power supply A power supply unit (or PSU) converts mains AC to low-voltage regulated DC power for the internal components of a computer Power supply connector on Main Board Rear connector in a AT power supply

Computer Parts Types Definition & Example Input Used to insert or supply data to the computer Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, microphone. Output Used to display data and programs from the computer Screen, printer, speakers, projector Input and Output Used for both at the same time to insert and display data from and to the computer Touch screen Storage Used to store programs and data Hard disk drive, optical disk drive, RAM, ROM,DVD. Connections Used to connect a computer to another computers or devices Video card, Ethernet card, Modem. Process Used to process data using program instructions CPU
